Harp Duos & Trios for Hawai’i weddings: What to know before booking
If you’re dreaming of romantic, cinematic wedding music, you may be imagining more than solo harp.
Solo harp is elegant and beautiful on its own. But when harp is paired with violin, cello, flute, or saxophone, the music becomes fuller, more layered, and more immersive.
For couples who love a graceful, Bridgerton-inspired ambiance, a harp with strings can create a beautiful live music experience for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, or a special featured moment.
Before booking a harp duo or trio, here are a few things to know so you can make an informed decision and secure the musicians you want.
-
My ensemble offerings are centered around the harp.
That means the harp remains at the heart of the sound, while additional instruments add warmth, movement, color, and emotional depth.
Popular harp-centered ensemble options include:
Harp & Violin
Harp & Cello
Harp & Flute
Harp & Saxophone
Harp, Violin & Cello Trio
Harp with violin often feels romantic, bright, and expressive. Harp with cello adds warmth, depth, and a rich cinematic feeling. Harp with flute feels light, graceful, and airy. Harp with saxophone brings a smooth, modern, and unexpected touch.
A harp, violin, and cello trio is especially beautiful for couples who want a fuller, more cinematic sound while still keeping the harp as the center of the musical experience.
-
My offerings currently focus on solo harp, harp duos, and harp trio.
A traditional string quartet can be a beautiful choice, but it requires its own dedicated repertoire, rehearsal approach, and ensemble structure. If you are specifically looking for a full string quartet, I’m happy to recommend established local quartet groups who specialize in that sound.
For couples who want the harp included in a fuller ensemble, I offer harp-centered options such as harp with violin, harp with cello, harp with flute, harp with saxophone, or harp, violin, and cello trio.
This allows me to offer a beautifully curated sound with music that has been thoughtfully selected for the harp and the musicians involved.
Harp Duo and Trio Investment
Because ensemble bookings include multiple professional musicians, the investment is higher than solo harp.
Duo music begins at $1,400 for the first hour.
Additional time may be added at $600 per hour or $300 per half hour.
Trio music begins at $2,100 for the first hour.
Additional time may be added at $900 per hour or $450 per half hour.
These rates reflect not only the performance time, but also preparation, coordination, professional experience, travel, setup, and the care required to bring live ensemble music to your event.
Why Ensemble Availability Matters
Additional musicians are accomplished professionals, including Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra musicians and established performers who regularly appear at weddings, concerts, hotels, and special events throughout the islands.
Because these musicians maintain active performance calendars, teaching schedules, student programs, and other engagements, availability can change quickly.
When possible, I may request a short 3-day courtesy hold with the additional musicians while your event details are reviewed.
Once your contract is sent, your booking fee is due within two weeks to secure your date and ensemble. If the booking fee is not received within that time, the date and musicians may be released for other engagements.
This is why timely booking is especially important for duo and trio requests.
Special Song Requests for Duos and Trios
Have a song in mind that would make your celebration feel even more personal?
If the song is not already part of the current repertoire, I am happy to consider learning it for your event.
A $100 song-learning fee applies per new song. For duo and trio bookings, this fee applies per musician, as each musician prepares a separate part.
Special song requests must be submitted 60–90 days prior to the event.
Requests require published sheet music or a suitable existing arrangement. Songs that require transcription from audio or video are outside the standard song-learning service.
All song learning depends on the availability of music and on whether the piece is well-suited for harp or ensemble.
Outdoor Weddings: Why Proper Shade Is Required
Outdoor weddings in Hawaiʻi can be beautiful, but live instruments need proper protection.
For outdoor performances, shade coverage is required for the harp and any additional musicians.
For solo harp, a large market umbrella or professional covered shade structure may be suitable when it provides full, stable coverage for the harp, musician, and equipment.
For duo and trio bookings, a 10 × 10 canopy or professional covered shade structure is required. Here are two rental companies that provide shade structures: Pacific Party Rentals and Accel Event Rentals.
Beach umbrellas or small decorative umbrellas are not sufficient. Tree shade is also not considered adequate coverage, as the sun moves throughout the event, and branches may drip sap, moisture, or debris.
The harp and ensemble instruments are professional concert instruments and must be protected from direct sunlight, heat, wind, rain, and shifting shade.
Many professional harps and string instruments are valued between $10,000 and $50,000+. Proper coverage helps protect the instruments, the musicians, and the quality of the music throughout your celebration.
-
You may see photos or videos of harp and strings performing outdoors under trees or in open-air locations.
Some of these moments may have been brief, shaded at the time, or created before more specific outdoor requirements were established.
For current bookings, proper shade coverage is required to protect the instruments and musicians throughout the performance.
If you are planning an outdoor ceremony or reception, your planner or venue can help arrange a suitable canopy or covered performance area.
-
A harp duo or trio may be a beautiful fit if you want:
A fuller, more cinematic sound
A Bridgerton-inspired ceremony or cocktail hour
Live music that feels romantic, elegant, and personal
A special featured musical moment
A more elevated guest experience
Music that transitions beautifully from ceremony to cocktail hour or dinner
Solo harp is a beautiful choice for many weddings. A duo or trio creates a more layered sound when you want something especially memorable.
A past outdoor ensemble performance in Hawaiʻi at the Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute in Ko Olina, where I performed as the harpist in a quartet hired by Oʻahu Strings.
For current bookings, tree shade is not considered adequate coverage. Outdoor ensemble performances require a 10 × 10 canopy or professional covered shade structure to protect the harp, string instruments, and musicians throughout the full performance.

Yes. Harp with violin or cello creates a romantic, cinematic, Bridgerton-inspired sound, and a harp, violin, and cello trio adds an even fuller ensemble experience.
My style leans modern and familiar, and I love when guests recognize a melody. Those elegant “name that tune” moments can help break the ice and invite genuine conversation among your guests.
The harp also brings a sense of regal, old-world elegance: grand homes, formal balls, drawing rooms, afternoon tea, and graceful gatherings. It adds shimmer, romance, and a sense of occasion, whether the music is classical, modern, or beautifully in between.

Sometimes, depending on availability.
You may book solo harp first to secure your date, then request to add violin, cello, flute, saxophone, or trio musicians later. Any additional musicians are coordinated through Harp Hawaii and selected based on your event needs, repertoire, and musician availability.
Some musicians also perform with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra or maintain active teaching and performance schedules, so availability may not be known far in advance. If you know you would love a duo or trio, it is best to request it early.
-
A $350 non-refundable booking fee is due upon signing and is applied toward your total balance.
Your wedding date is secured with Harp Hawaii once the signed agreement and booking fee are received. The booking fee is not the full performance fee.
